Professional Development Award

Guidelines

This award honors teachers and/or teacher candidates who have excelled in scholarship, professional activities, awards, and service.  Each state ATE unit in the SRATE states may nominate one recipient for each of two categories of awards: Baccalaureate and Post-Baccalaureate. Nominees for the Baccalaureate Professional Development Award must have received his/her degree in teacher education during the fall semester 2006 or spring semester 2007. Nominees for the Post-Baccalaureate Professional Development Award must have received his/her advanced degree in teacher education during the fall semester 2007 or spring semester 2008.

Those selected will be honored at the 55th SRATE Annual Conference in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina,  November 7-9, 2008.

Deadline for submissions is September 8, 2008.

Application information:

Baccalaureate

      1. Nominee must have received his/her degree in teacher education during the fall semester 2007 or spring semester 2008.
      1. Submit a packet of material including:
          Cover page
          Professional Development Award criteria information
        *   Two letters of recommendation-- individuals associated with the nominee’s  institution

 

Post-Baccalaureate

      1. Nominee must have received his/her advanced degree in teacher education during the fall semester 2007 or spring semester 2008.
      1. Submit a packet of material including:
        *    Cover page
        *    Professional Development Award criteria information
        *   Two letters of recommendation from individuals associated with the nominee’s institution

 

Professional Development Award Criteria

A.            Scholarship

      1. Grade point average
      1. Graduation with honors (Post-baccalaureate only)
      1. Degrees awarded (Post-baccalaureate only)
      1. If degreed, the degree must have been granted during this past academic year

B.            Professional Activities

      1. Officer in professional organizations
        *     National
        *     Regional
        *     State and local
      1. Membership in professional organizations
        *     National
        *     Regional
        *     State and local
      1. Participation on-campus professional development programs

C.            Awards

*  Special recognition by professional organization for achievement
*  Special recognition by service organization for achievement

D.           Service

*  Membership on university or college committees
