Roy Lauter Distinguished Service Award

Purpose of the Award:

To Honor Roy Lauter for his many years of distinguished service to SRATE as executive director, board member, president and past-president, and member of the association and to establish an annual award to recognize persons who have made cumulative significant contributions to SRATE over a period of at least 10 years for their service to the organization and their contributions to teacher education in the SRATE region.

Criteria for selection:

  1. A documented history of contribution to SRATE and teacher education within the SRATE region that shall include such things as
  2. Leadership roles within SRATE that may, but not necessarily, include serving as SRATE President;
  3. Leadership roles within their state ATE affiliate as well as other contributions to teacher education;
  4. Service to SRATE that includes at least a ten-year period and for those individuals who have served as President must include significant contribution after her/his tenure as President and/or significant contribution prior to tenure as President.

Selection process and announcement:

Subsequent year awards shall be made by the Roy L. Lauter Distinguished Service Award Selection Committee that shall be chaired by the Immediate Past-President and include the most recent recipient and one other Past-President or award recipient appointed by the President.

Except under unusual circumstances, one recipient will be selected per year.

Bestowing the Honor:

  • The award shall be presented at the annual Awards Luncheon of the SRATE Conference with the recipient being presented an appropriate plaque.
  • The Fall/Winter Issue of the SRATE Journal shall include a feature honoring the recipient.
